TouchBistro has integrated its Pay at Table feature with the PayPal app, meaning diners can order and pay from their tables in participating restaurants.

Customers visiting TouchBistro restaurants across North America can now use their smartphones to check in, view their bill and pay for their food and drinks without having to flag down a passing waiter.

Alex Barrotti, CEO and founder of TouchBistro, said: "There are two pain points that we have identified in the dining experience – ordering and paying – and we are now solving both with the use of mobile technology.

"Restaurants that are using TouchBistro’s mobile POS solutions for tableside ordering together with the Pay at Table service can now save on average seven minutes per table from the time they seat a customer until they leave the table.

"This is significant as it enables restaurants to serve more customers and in turn increases their revenues."

To use Pay at Table, customers check in using PayPal on arrival at the restaurant and are assigned a table by a server using the TouchBistro app.

The server then places their order in the TouchBistro app and the details are immediately reflected in the customer’s PayPal app.

Customers can then tap "See Bill" to view and pay the bill and the transaction details will register in the TouchBistro app, allowing staff to see whether they have paid. Customers can also use the PayPal app to add a tip, split the bill and check out.

TouchBistro, a Toronto-based provider of restaurant management services, partnered with PayPal in August 2013 over cloud-based payments, allowing customers to pay their bill over the cloud.

TouchBistro provides iPad-based point of sale terminals to restaurants including Steamwhistle Brewery, Fidel Gastro’s, Spirithouse and Jimmy’s Coffee, where the cloud payment scheme was tested.

The company uses the cloud to connect iPads to cash drawers and printers.
