Payment app Tikkie is now available in Germany, marking its first cross-border venture.

Dutch state-owned bank ABN AMRO launched the app in 2016 in the Netherlands. The app allows customers with a Dutch and now German bank account to send payment requests via WhatsApp.

Frank Verkerk, chief digital officer at ABN AMRO, stated: “Less than two years after Tikkie’s launch, it’s already time for the first cross-border venture.

“And we owe it all to the many users who made Tikkie their own and provided us with continuous feedback on how to make the app even better and more enjoyable to use. We hope our German neighbours will also embrace Tikkie, and adopt it as a fast and friendly way to ask back money they lent to friends and acquaintances.”

Tikkie is available for iPhone and Android users and free for customers with Dutch or German bank accounts. Users can now conveniently send payment requests to family or friends using WhatsApp or text messages, inviting the sender to pay through iDEAL.

In the Netherlands, the app is now used by well over two million people.
