Finnish IT services firm Tieto has provided a solution that will allow customers of Touch Bank, a Russian digital bank, to make payments with Visa and Mastercard cards using their Google Pay wallet.

Google Pay facilitates purchases on-line and on mobile apps, as well as at locations supporting NFC technology.

The payment app, rolled out last month, was created through the merger of Google’s various payment services including Android Pay and Google Wallet.

Google Pay also addresses security concerns by using tokenisation technology and ensuring that card data is not provided to the seller.

Touch Bank head of development of banking products Sergei Mozhaev said: “We highly appreciate Tieto for the successful project on connecting Touch Bank to the payment service Google Pay. Together, we managed to go through all stages of development and implementation of the project in the shortest possible time and give customers a long-awaited opportunity to use smartphones instead of more traditional means of payment.”

Tieto director of retail payments and cards Valdis Janovs added: “The use of Google Pay will enhance the experience and strengthen the loyalty and positioning of the Touch Bank brand as an innovative and future-facing financial institution.”
