PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, (Telkom), Indonesia’s largest telco by mobile subscribers, has announced plans to expand its existing remittance services to Taiwan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

The state-owned telco plans to extend the service this year in a follow-up to its launch of a remittance centre in Hong Kong.

Telkom enterprise and business service director Muhammad Awaluddin said: "Currently, we have an international remittance service centre based in Hong Kong, which operates under a cash-to-bank mechanism; the same as it’s done domestically.

"For the upcoming services we will cooperate with pawn shops to deliver cash-to-cash services."

The Jakarta-based telco, which covers between 45% and 50% of the mobile subscribers in Indonesia, will use online payments and cash delivery services, according to Awaluddin.

Telkom also intends to increase its electronic delivery financial agents from 12,778 to 35,000 by the end of the year, he added.
