Starbucks has launched gift cards at select locations in mainland China, in time for the Chinese or "Lunar" New Year.

 

Starbucks cards can be purchased in three design themes, including "Thank You", "Kind Regards" and "Happy New Lunar Year".

 

Starbucks is also offering a Lunar New Year gift card in participating stores in the US. This Lunar Year is the Year of the Horse, symbolising joyfulness and self-reliance.

Adam Brotman, chief digital officer for Starbucks said: "The Starbucks card has become a symbol of appreciation and human connection around the world.

 

"We are thrilled to be able now to offer Starbucks cards to our customers in China."

 

The Starbucks card was launched in 2002 and since then $16bn (£9.74bn) has been loaded on more than 450m cards in 27 countries worldwide, as of 30 September 2013.
