The government of Sri Lanka has approved the implementation of prepaid card system for public transportation in the country.

The move will be implemented in association with Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Transport Board, National Transport Commission, private bus owners, public banks as well as IT companies.

The new prepaid card system will help charge a fixed fee from passengers, with the due income directed to the bus owners accurately.

"Also the issues such as not possessing coins can be easily avoided," an official statement from the government of Sri Lanka said.
