Card acceptance solutions provider Square has updated its magstripe card reader to supports payments on Mac, Chromebook and iphones.

The updated card reader will allow businesses using Apple computer or Chromebook to accept payments using the company’s Virtual Terminal to transform their computer into a checkout station.

The latest solution works with Apple Safari and Google Chrome browsers on Apple computer, and Google Chrome on Chromebook.

Previously, Square magstripe card reader was compatible to accept transactions on mobile phones with headphone jacks. As latest iOS devices lack such jack, an adapter had to be used for accepting payments.

To address this issue, Square has added new Lightning connection option to the Square Reader for magstripe device.

The option enables Apple smartphone or tablet users to take card payments easily with accurate swiping. The card reader can be used with the Square Point of Sale app.

This card reader connects via Bluetooth LE and requires dip approach rather than swiping. It works for both contactless and chip cards.
