Canadian paytech SnapPay has introduced facial recognition payment technology in North America.
The roll-out is expected to streamline checkouts at retail outlets, enabling customers to pay with a digital snapshot.
SnapPay CEO and founder Spencer Xu said: “Facial recognition technology is an increasingly popular method of payment among global consumers.
“By enabling consumers to pay with their ‘face’ North American merchants, particularly those with self-service kiosks, are providing an unprecedented level of convenience and speed in the checkout process, to a lucrative customer segment that increasingly demands it.”
SnapPay’s facial recognition feature takes a 3-D snapshot of the users’ face to authenticate their payment account. The merchants can also link the feature with their loyalty programmes.
The company has already demonstrated the technology at Retail Council of Canada’s Retail West Show in Vancouver. Plans are also on to showcase the technology at Toronto’s Grocery Innovations Canada (GIC) show soon.
