Filipino retail operator SM Retail has joined forces with Visa to offer contactless payments at all its stores across the nation.

The partnership will allow the retailer to offer “Tap to Pay with Visa” at 5,000 terminals in its 58 stores in 68 SM supermalls.

The move phases out the requirement to dip or swipe the card for transactions below PHP2,000 ($38.36).

Visa country manager for Philippines and Guam Stuart Tomlinson said: “We want to show Filipinos how contactless payments can elevate and transform their shopping experiences.”

Tomlinson also indicated Visa’s plans to collaborate with other large retailers in the Asian country.

“We look forward to seeing more Filipinos embrace it and helping to accelerate the use of electronic payments in the country,” he noted.
