E-commerce company Shopify has partnered with CoinPayments to allow all its merchants to accept cryptocurrency as a payment.
The strategic partnership between the companies follows a successful beta test that commenced last year.
As per the terms of the agreement, CoinPayments will now be a visible payment option for merchants on the Shopify platform.
The companies expect that this integration will make cryptocurrency payments easier and more accessible as well as slash transaction charges.
The partners also hope that the partnership will lead to wider adoption of payments in digital currencies.
CoinPayments’ crypto payments processing platform will allow vendors to get paid in any of the 1,800 cryptocurrencies.
CoinPayments CEO Jason Butcher said: “The combination of Shopify and CoinPayments is unstoppable in the payments industry.
“By bringing our easy-to-use global crypto payments platform together with Shopify’s extensive merchant base, we look forward to delivering a seamless process for anyone looking to do business using cryptocurrencies. As leaders in ecommerce and crypto payments, our combined expertise reflects the future of business transactions.”
Shopify enables website proprietors to develop their own virtual store fronts, managing and tracking sales, and responding to orders.
CoinPayments, which was established in 2013, is a digital currency payment platform that allows businesses to accept Bitcoin and over 1700 altcoins in their store via simple plugins, APIs, and POS interfaces.
