RiverPay to facilitate Chinese customers’ payments at Harrods

RiverPay, which connects Chinese consumers with overseas market, has been selected to facilitate payments at Harrods’ Knightsbridge store in London.

The company will now facilitate payments made through Alipay and WeChat Pay by Chinese consumers at the store.

As a part of the process, RiverPay payment system was integrated with Harrod’s existing payments infrastructure.

There are 393,000 Chinese residents and 95,000 Chinese students in the UK. Furthermore, 483,000 arrivals are estimated from China this year, according to VisitBritain. Overall, Chinese visitors are expected to spend more than £1bn this year.

Accordingly, the move will enable Harrod’s to cater to the growing Chinese tourists in the country. It also further strengthens RiverPay’s footprint in the European retail market.

RiverPay co-founder and CEO Ryan Zheng said: “Harrods is much more than a department store; it’s a destination unto itself for Chinese consumers. The Harrods brand is highly-desirable and synonymous with premium, luxury and excellence.

“We are pleased to help enable even more convenience for Harrods Chinese clientele though RiverPay’s fast, secure and widely-compatible payments technologies.

“By expediting the connection to the top two mobile payment platforms from China, we are playing the role in enhancing the overall experience of Chinese consumers when shopping at the most sought-after shopping destination on the globe.”

RiverPay is an authorised payment service provider of Alipay and WeChat Pay. Currently, it serves more than 12,000 merchants across North America and Europe.
