National Bank of Ras Al-Khaimah PJSC (RAKBANK) and Spanish football club FC Barcelona have rolled out a new co-branded prepaid card in the UAE.

Called FC Barcelona Prepaid Card, the new prepaid card is powered by Mastercard.

The new programme, according to the bank, will offer customers both a physical card as well as a virtual solution.

Supported by a dedicated ‘RAKBarça’ mobile application, the card is pre-loaded with AED100 ($27.23) that can be availed upon activation. The card can be purchased from 26 select ZOOM outlets across several emirates.

Upon purchasing the prepaid card, customers can use RAKBarça mobile app to instantly activate their card, recharge funds, monitor transactions, and check balance.

Additionally, the customers can use the mobile app’s SocialPay feature to send funds between friends.

Moreover, the FC Barcelona Prepaid Card can be loaded into Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay to carry out contactless payments.

RAKBANK said that the prepaid cardholders can add their card details on their smartphone and smartwatch to use contactless payments at point-of-sale terminals. They can also carry out cash withdrawals at contactless-enabled RAKBANK ATMs.

RAKBANK managing director of personal banking Frederic de Melker said: “When we developed the Card, we knew that it would be vital to focus our efforts on creating a robust digital interface for our customers to enjoy a seamless user experience.

“This Prepaid Card is going to be particularly appealing to young and tech-savvy football fans in the UAE, who now have a solution that offers convenient and secure digital payments for their everyday purchases.”
