In the online transaction environment, customers’ computers are
the weakest link in the security chain, stresses Jose Antonio
Lopez, Panda Security’s director of corporate solutions.

To strengthen the chain, the Spanish internet security company
has developed Panda Security for Internet Transactions (PSIT), an
anti-fraud system that enables banks, payment platforms and other
businesses operating online to ensure that their customers’
computers are not infected with malicious software (malware).

He said that PSIT, which scans a customer’s computer in real
time and is imperceptible to users, eliminates the risk of
passwords being stolen or other fraudulent operations. PSIT, which
is compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers, also
enables companies to defend themselves against malware that
specifically targets them, as the system includes specialised
protection against targeted attacks.

In addition, PSIT can be configured to specify situations in
which customers will be prevented from accessing their website.
“For example, if the system detects that a user is infected with a
Trojan [virus] that does not pose a threat to the transaction, the
user can be allowed to access the website, and administrators can
decide whether or not to advise the users that the computer is
infected,” explained Lopez.

Emphasising the need for transaction service providers to take
proactive measure, Lopez noted that online fraud in 2007 increased
by almost 40 percent compared with 2006.

According to Panda, its PSIT system is updated in real time and
is capable of detecting more than 2 million malicious codes.
