OMV, an Austrian integrated oil and gas company, has tapped fintech firm WEX to manage its fuel card programme across ten European markets.

The completion of the implementation is anticipated within the coming two years.

OMV is part of ROUTEX, which is a network alliance between ARAL, BP, Circle K Europe, Eni and OMV. ROUTEX’s common card processing and security standards across Europe allow participating member card programmes to work at fuelling locations across the ROUTEX network.

The latest partnership makes WEX technology responsible for processing the ROUTEX transactions on behalf of OMV.

WEX senior vice president and general manager of global partners Brian Fournier said: “Expanding our presence in Europe is a strategic focus for WEX as we continue our investment in forming strategic partnerships like the one with OMV.”

OMV is said to produce and market oil and gas, and chemical solutions in a responsible manner. The firm is active in both upstream as well as downstream businesses.

In Downstream, the firm has three refineries across Europe while having a 15% share in ADNOC Refining and ADNOC Global Trading.

It also operates around 2,100 filling stations across ten countries in Europe and issues its own fuel cards to support its retail operations.

WEX moves

Earlier in 2019, WEX acquired acquisition of Go Fuel Card, the fuel card business of British fuel station and convenience retailer EG Group.

In September 2018, WEX integrated with debit and credit payments processor Moneris Solutions to launch its commercial fleet card solutions in Canada. In the same month, WEX collaborated with Australia-based Troovo Technologies to enable robotic automation of its virtual card generation in the Asia Pacific region.
