Ministry of Railways has launched a new Go-India Smart Card, which will allow rail passengers to avoid problems such as carrying coin change or standing in queues for buying ticket.

The card is being introduced as a pilot project and would cover 11 stations in six Zonal Railways of the New Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi-Kolkata sections.

Go-India Smart Card will be used for Indian Railway applications such as Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Retiring Room (RR) counters and existing Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM).

Go-India smart card can be used across any UTS, PRS, RR and existing ATVM of Indian Railway.

The new card will have unlimited validity, but if customer does not make any transaction within six months, the card will be temporarily deactivated. The card can then be reactivated by paying INR50 ($0.83) as activation charges.
