McDonalds Apple Pay has been an accepted payment method since 2014 in the US and 2015 in the UK. Apple Pay enables a secure and faster way for customers to check out with their orders.

However, Apple Pay and McDonalds have enjoyed a successful payments platform and continue to promote new offers to its customers.

Partnership

Kicking off in the US in 2017, McDonald’s integrated its checkout service Ingenico Group to provide a seamless process for customers. Now, McDonalds is doing the same thing in the UK. Rolling out a click and collect app, in-store kiosks and Drive Thru contactless payments all aimed at handling contactless cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

McDonalds has signed up with Ingenico Group to create a fast, secure and seamless payment structure to be able to offer customers a wider variety of payment options. McDonalds Apple Pay has become increasingly popular, showing consistent growth across all demographics.

Jon Braithwaite, director of IT, McDonald’s Restaurants Limited, stated: “We believe that this payment solution is one of the most advanced in the retail sector and is a critical component to delivering an excellent experience for our customers.

“Leveraging Ingenico’s experience of implementing complex payment programmes, our teams have been able to deliver the new service ahead of schedule, on budget and with the outstanding performance level we expected. Ingenico’s payment security expertise, scale and commitment to innovation give us the confidence that we have the right partner to support our needs now and into the future.”

Speed

The whole business strategy of McDonalds runs on speed, so it makes complete sense to facilitate Apple Pay as well as Google Pay. In an increasingly digital world, consumers want fast and easy access to the purchases they make. That means short or no queues and a seamless payments process. Millions of people around the world buy McDonalds food. Many consumers need food on the go so they can continue with their daily lives. Using McDonalds Apple Pay enables an even quicker checkout process than cards.

Security

In many ways, paying through a mobile device is more secure than using a debit or credit card. A consumer’s personal payment data is encrypted as it travels from a mobile to the NFC terminal, and that encryption changes each time you pay.

When using McDonalds Apple Pay, consumer’s card number and security code are never visible like they would be if using a physical card. This innovative technology makes it much harder for hackers to steal details.

McDonalds offer

Throughout its journey, Apple Pay has released a series of promotional deals for consumers and businesses. In its latest promotional offer, consumers who use Apple Pay to check out in the McDonald’s iOS app on a Friday in April, in the US will have the opportunity to get free medium fries with their order.

The McDonald’s promotion is valid only with a minimum $1 purchase. In a statement from Apple Pay, the company reminded consumers that Apple Pay Cash could be used as well to split the bill between friends.

McDonalds is one of many restaurants that accept Apple Pay. Apple Pay vice president, Jennifer Bailey noted that 50% of US retailers now accept Apple’s mobile payment service.

McDonalds Apple Pay shows no sign of slowing down as consumer usage continues to grow. It makes complete sense that a billion dollar company like McDonalds harnesses the benefits of faster, modern and secure payment platforms for its customers.
