Mastercard to serve as official payment partner of DreamHack’ NLC

Mastercard has reached an agreement to act as the official payment partner of DreamHack’ Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) for the 2020 season.

As a part of the agreement, Mastercard will also offer “Priceless Play of the Match” rewards for viewers of the NLC.

Mastercard Nordics & Baltics head of marketing Jessica Stahlbom said: “We are very pleased to be able to work with DreamHack on a new league in Northern Europe, a region where esports is strongly established and widely viewed as fantastic entertainment.

“It is our hope that fans of League of Legends and NLC will appreciate the priceless experiences and competitions that we will present on an ongoing basis throughout the league.”

The NLC is the official League of Legends esports organisation for the Nordic Region, UK, and Ireland.

It runs in parallel to the League of Legends European Championship, which will be hosted by DreamHack this year.

The competition has selected 12 teams, who will compete with each other in two divisions of six teams each, for over the course of seven weeks.

The championship already commenced on 16 June and four out of 12 teams will move to the playoffs in August.

The playoffs will be conducted at DreamHack Summer 2020 live event in Sweden. The teams will compete for a minimum prize amount of SEK1m ($107,422).

The invited teams include ENCE, Nordavind, Singularity, Barrage, BT Excel, Fnatic Rising and more.

DreamHack co-CEO Roger Lodewick said: “Esports continues to grow and thrive, so we couldn’t be happier to welcome Mastercard to the DreamHack family and their ongoing support of this industry.”

Recently, Mastercard extended its global partnership with Riot Games – the developer of the popular action-strategy game League of Legends.

Under this deal, the payments giant was responsible for supporting the financial services category for the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS).

Therefore, Mastercard has been chosen as the preferred partner to support the esports community.
