MaaS Global taps Enfuce to introduce prepaid card offering on Whim app

MaaS Global, a mobility-as-a-service provider, has teamed up Finland-based fintech startup Enfuce to launch a card payment product in its mobility app Whim.

Under the partnership, MaaS Global will issue Mastercard prepaid cards and expand its footprint in new markets.

MaaS Global modernises urban mobility by combining all public and private transport services into travelling subscriptions.

Launched in 2017, its all-inclusive Whim app users have completed over eight million trips using public transport, taxis, rental bikes, cars, and more.

Using the new ‘Whim card’, app users can now pay for various multimodal subscriptions and pay-as-you-go plans in one place.

The cards are said to be entirely virtual and open-loop. Hence, they will eventually be accepted by any merchant via Google Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.

MaaS Global CTO Petteri Laesvuori said: “With Enfuce’s close guidance, we can offer Whim customers a reliable, efficient and most of all easy payment experience – bringing us closer to our vision of truly friction-free travel.”

Enfuce will act as a Bank Identification Number (BIN) sponsor for MaaS Global to allow the issuance of Mastercard prepaid cards.

Additionally, Enfuce’s Business Services add-on will equip MaaS Global with back-office tools for addressing risk, support and fraud-related issues.

Enfuce co-founder and chair Monika Liikamaa said: “Our one-stop-shop service facilitates secure and scalable payments, and allows our partner to focus on their core business.

“We look forward to helping MaaS Global provide a seamless service that enables people to access and pay for all their transport needs in one place.”

The payment service is expected to initially roll out in the UK and in other markets including Singapore later this year.

Earlier this month, Swedish neobank Rocker also selected Enfuce as its card-issuing partner.
