Japan-based LINE Pay, a mobile remittance and payment service, has partnered with Visa to launch a co-branded credit card optimised for mobile payments.

Customers use the LINE Pay-Visa Credit Card independently or link it to the LINE Pay account for both domestic and international transactions. It features Visa’s contactless payment capability.

Purchases made with the card in the first year will give customers 3% reward points.

Customers linking their card to LINE Pay will also be able to pay using their smartphones, without presenting a physical card.

The company noted that users of the newly launched co-branded credit card will be able to pay for their purchases using their credit line, without having to top up their LINE Pay Wallet balance.

LINE Pay is planning to offer additional benefits based on the cardholder’s transaction activity, including LINE Points in combination with another incentive programme called My Level.

Furthermore, the company introduced an option for customers to receive instant LINE Pay-Visa Credit Card payments notifications through the LINE app.

LINE Pay CEO Youngsu Ko said: “As LINE Pay has grown, our top priority has always been providing the best possible user payment experience.

“We believe the launch of the LINE Pay-Visa co-branded credit card will greatly improve the entire LINE Pay platform, adding a diverse range of easy-to-use features and driving a significant increase in users.”

LINE Pay, launched in 2014, is used to send money or for in-store and online shopping. Users can top up their account at convenience stores, ATMs or via bank transfer.

The firm’s card portfolio also includes the prepaid LINE Pay Card.
