American retailing company Kroger has introduced new Kroger Rewards debit card, a payment option which will be directly connected to a customer’s checking account.

Along with the rewards card, the firm has also rolled out mobile payment solution Kroger Pay. The offering is capable of combining customer’s payment and loyalty card information to enable faster checkouts.

Kroger Personal Finance CEO Gary Millerchip said: “Kroger is redefining the customer experience by creating innovative ways to pay at our stores and online.

“Kroger Pay and the Kroger REWARDS debit card are two more ways we are transforming our payments model to benefit our customers.”

The new Rewards debit card provides multiple benefits including discounts and bonus fuel points. Additionally, the Kroger Rewards debit card doubles the reward value when used through Kroger Pay.

Currently, the card is available for use in Columbus, Ohio and Colorado (King Soopers and City Market).

Millerchip added: “Our new Kroger Rewards debit card is a lower-cost payment option, enabling us to offer our customers additional savings when they are shopping in a store or online or fuelling up.

“Through Restock Kroger, we are lowering operating costs, and our new debit card is another way we are doing just that while also rewarding customers who use it.”

Kroger Pay is available both on iOS and Android devices.

Once a customer enters their custom PIN or biometrics, the app offers a single-use QR code which the customers can scan at the payment terminal. It enables to swiftly communicate payment and loyalty card information reducing checkout time.

The Kroger Pay can be used at conventional checkout lanes and self-checkout terminals.

Additionally, the app offers special rewards to the customers who use any Kroger Family of Cards.

Currently, it is available in the retailer’s Columbus, Ohio division, with a nationwide rollout expected later this year.
