Cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab has partnered with WISeKey, a Switzerland-based digital security company, to bolster protection for wearable devices that are increasingly used for mobile and contactless payments.

The partnership will see both the companies developing a technology to integrate authentication and data encryption into new wearable devices.

Kaspersky said this deal will allow these Internet of Things (IoT) devices to safely connect, communicate and exchange financial data.

As part the partnership, Kaspersky Lab’s secure software development kit for mobile devices will be included into WISeKey’s patented security software, WIS.WATCH, bringing an additional layer of security for mobile payments.

The combined solution will be based on WISeKey’s ‘Cryptographic Root of Trust for IoT’ and NFC Trusted technology.

WISeKey CEO Carlos Moreira said: "This cooperation between WISeKey and Kaspersky Lab represents a breakthrough in IoT cyber-security. The combination of trust and convenience that will be delivered to wearable devices opens the door to implementations in other sectors, where the same approach can support a variety of other IoT applications."
