JCB adds support for Apple Pay in Taiwan

Japanese payments firm JCB International has made Apple’s mobile payment platform Apple Pay available for its customers in Taiwan.

E.Sun Bank and Union Bank of Taiwan will be the first in the country to support Apple Pay, followed by other JCB brand payment product issuers at a later stage.

Apple Pay does not store actual card numbers of users on the device or on Apple servers but assigns a unique Device Account Number that is encrypted and securely stored on users’ devices.

Transactions made through Apple Pay are validated through a one-time unique dynamic security code.

The payment platform is compatible with iPhone 6 and later, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad (5th Generation and later), iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and later, as well as Apple Watch.

JCB executive vice president, business development and coordination, Daisuke Sakurai said: “The Taiwan payment market is one of the most advanced in terms of contactless payment, with many merchants equipped with contactless payment readers. Taiwan is the first market after Japan where JCB is supporting Apple Pay.”
