Ingenico Group has partnered with Italian digital payments firm Nexi to trial a new PIN-on-Mobile solution in the country for secure processing of card payments via mobile devices.

With an aim to launch the Visa and Mastercard-compliant solution before September this year, the partners will test it for merchant and cardholder acceptance.

The six-month pilot will involve more than 1000 secure card readers (SCR) for EMV and contactless cards and mobile PIN entry application (MPEA) to enable manual entry on the merchant’s device.

In addition, the companies will provide a back-end Trust Service to examine and check the security of a merchant’s device prior to PIN entry, and a Nexi Merchant Business App.

Apart from acceptance, the trial will investigate solution performance, fraud and risk, and robustness in general.

Ingenico executive vice-president of EMEA & Group Global Sales, Banks & Acquirers business unit, Luciano Cavazzana said: “The pilot will target primarily micro-merchants, who currently rely on cash, process a low volume of transactions and are willing to accept card payments.
