IDEX forms alliance to accelerate biometric smart card adoption in Asia

Norway-based IDEX Biometrics has joined forces with Chutian Dragon and PAX Technology to speed up biometric payment cards adoption in Asia.

In November last year, the Norwegian firm partnered with Chinese smart card manufacturer Chutian Dragon to develop dual-interface biometric cards.

IDEX and Chutian Dragon are now partnering with Chinese payment terminals manufacturer PAX to run real-life EMV compliant transactions of biometric smart cards.

As per the agreement, PAX will work provide EMV compliant point-of-sale (POS) as a component for biometric transactions. The partnership will use IDEX’s SmartFinger IDX 3200 dual-interface sensor.

IDEX Biometrics CEO Stan Swearingen commented: “The biometric smart card market is gathering momentum and to accelerate their mass adoption it is important to ensure interoperability between all elements of the transaction value chain. This is a clear example of IDEX actively driving the creation of this huge potential market.”

Chutian Dragon CEO Susan Su said: “We began our partnership with IDEX last year and now we are delighted to be able to showcase the value of our biometric smart cards with IDEX’s latest dual-interface sensor in realistic payment transactions.

“This is a significant step forward in bringing biometric payment cards to Asia.”

In January this year, IDEX partnered with Chinese card integrator Goldpac Group to launch dual-interface biometric smart cards in China and other international markets.
