IDEX Biometrics has partnered with China’s Silone Cardtech to accelerate the production of biometric payment cards.

The move comes at a time when the Norwegian biometrics company is witnessing increasing demand for biometric payment solutions in Asia.

Under the partnership, IDEX Biometrics will work with the Chinese firm to deliver dual-interface biometric payment cards in the region.

IDEX Biometrics CEO Stan Swearingen said: “This partnership with Silone further strengthens IDEX’s commitment to satisfy the increasing demands for biometric smart cards.

“Silone are proven specialists in manufacturing high quality smart card products and together we offer a compelling value proposition for customers.”

Established in Shenzhen in 2001, Silone Cardtech delivers around 300 million smart cards and inlays annually.

The company specialises in developing contactless, contact and dual-interface smart cards. It also delivers production and testing equipment for the smart card industry.

Silone CEO William Ju said: “Our customers are some of the largest card vendors in the world and we are excited by the prospect of being able to offer them the next level of security and convenience in their smart cards.

“High volume manufacturing of biometric smart cards requires considerable expertise and this partnership with IDEX, the leader in off-chip sensing technology, will help us to meet our customers’ needs.”

Last month, IDEX Biometrics partnered another Chinese firm Tongxin Microelectronics (TMC) to accelerate adoption of biometric payment cards.

Under this agreement, they will work together on creating a compatible biometric smart card solution for end-customer implementation.
