In a statement today (3 August), Mynt, GCash’s parent firm, said the update is aimed at giving users “greater flexibility” when paying in-store, including when their GCash wallet balance is low or zero.
The change is expected to reduce the need for users to cash in before making purchases.
Under the planned functionality, users will be able to add up to three Visa or Mastercard cards to their GCash account. They will also be able to select a default card and manage or unlink cards within the app.
Security will include one-time password (OTP) authentication for the card-linking process. For eligible transactions, additional authentication may be handled through biometrics or a phone PIN, where available.
G-Xchange, the mobile wallet operator of GCash, president and CEO Ren-ren Reyes said: “Our commitment to innovation means building solutions that make daily payments simpler, safer, and completely effortless.
“We are thrilled to soon allow GCash users to link their Visa or Mastercard directly for payments. As we prepare to roll out this feature, we remain committed to giving Filipinos the freedom to pay their way with ultimate convenience and total peace of mind.”
GCash supports services including airtime purchases, bill payments, domestic transfers, and merchant payments. The app also provides access to savings, credit, loans, insurance, and investments.
The development comes after Mynt, which defines itself as the “first and only $5bn unicorn” in the country, filed for a listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) in June.
The IPO is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions.
