French banking group Arkéa has signed an agreement to enable merchant clients of its distribution networks to accept cards from Discover.
The collaboration will also enable merchant clients to accept Discover, Diners Club International and alliance partner cards from POS terminals, mobile terminals and online from payments webpages.
Additionally, customers can use cards from Discover Global Network at Arkéa group’s ATMs to withdraw cash.
The move is expected to increase the acceptance of Discover Global Network in France.
Arkéa group deputy CEO Frédéric Laurent said: “This agreement will allow our merchant clients to better welcome international tourists.
“Arkéa places itself at the heart of the real economy: our mission is to support our clients and more precisely merchant clients to realise their ambitions and in this way contribute to their development and that of our territories.”
The Discover Global Network is operated by Discover Financial Services, a US-based card issuer. The network includes Discover Network, Diners Club International, PULSE and more than 15 alliance partner networks.
Recently, it added Verve Global Card to its network.
The network boasts around 44 million merchant acceptance locations and two million ATM cash access locations globally.
Discover senior vice-president of global acceptance Amy Parsons said: “France remains an important market for Discover to increase acceptance, especially with many global events set to be hosted in the country in the next few years.
“Arkéa works with many key merchants across the regions where our cardholders may make purchases during their visit.”
Earlier this month, Discover, along with Amex, topped credit card customer satisfaction rankings.
