EE extends ‘Cash on tap’ to more 4G devices

Customers purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3, or Sony Xperia Z1 from EE will have access to the service, allowing them to pay for purchases of £20 ($32) or under by ‘tapping’ their phone against an EE terminal.

Launched in July 2013 in partnership with payments provider MasterCard, the service uses near-field communication (NFC) technology to connect users’ phones to the point of sale.

The app is available for free from the Google Play store, stores a list of transactions made, as well as including a top-up function and a balance checker.

Commenting on the ‘Cash on tap’ product, Simeon Bird, EE director of propositions, said: "Cash on tap is one of the most convenient ways to pay for everyday items, removing the need to reach for your wallet or search out loose change.

"We’re pleased to be announcing the next compatible handsets, allowing even more EE customers to benefit from the simplicity and control the service offers them".

The announcement follows news of EE’s decision to invest in 4G technology as an alternative for fixed broadband in the UK’s rural areas.

The company is set to launch Britain’s first commercial 4G home broadband service on the November 11, 2013.
