E-commerce firm eBay has added support for Google’s mobile payment platform Google Pay in a bid to intermediate end-to-end payments on its marketplace.

The decision is said to be triggered by the online buying preferences of millennials and Gen Z.

The move enables Google Pay users to make payments for purchases on eBay through the app.

Users of the payment platform can also choose to pay on the mobile web and desktop.

The Google Pay support can be accessed by Android users from this April.

The caveat is that the option can be availed only from those sellers enrolled in the e-commerce firm’s new managed payments plan.

Under the managed payments programme of eBay, users can check out without leaving the platform.

eBay vice president of global payments, billing and risk Alyssa Cutright said: “Google Pay provides users with a fast, simple and secure way to pay online.

“Offering Google Pay as a form of payment is another significant step toward providing our customers with more choice in their payment options, and creating an experience that is tailored to personal preferences.”

Last year, eBay ended its reliance on PayPal by terminating its 15-year long partnership with the latter.

In place of PayPal, eBay opted for Adyen as its primary payments processor partner.

Soon after, eBay enabled its users to pay with Apple Pay.
