Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) has partnered with Google to add contactless transit cards to the latter’s mobile payment platform Google Pay.

The partnership, according to CTS, will further improve the contactless payment technology already available in London, New York, and Miami.

Additionally, Cubic noted that transit agencies leveraging its revenue management systems will be able to avail the benefit of Google’s user experiences to boost ridership.

Through the integration of the transit cards to Google Pay, users can refill funds securely and buy tickets using their mobile devices without having to swipe a physical transit card.

Using the latest technology, travellers can also access real-time schedules for journey planning. Besides, they can get notifications and alerts in real-time.

Cubic chairman, president, and CEO Bradley Feldmann said: “Today’s travellers seek more choices, flexibility and personalisation – which is why we strive to develop innovative mobile transit payment solutions to enable seamless and convenient travel experiences.

Google Pay director of product management Ambarish Kenghe stated: “Working with Cubic will help us simplify the commute for Google Pay users in several major transit systems – including support for Clipper cards in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“Ultimately, our goal is to make riding public transit seamless and convenient for as many people as we can.
