Crypto exchange Gemini expands services to Australia

Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has expanded its global presence by launching services in Australia.

The move will enable Australians to trade virtual currencies by downloading the Gemini mobile app on Android or iOS.

The app covers a range of digital currencies including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ether, Zcash, and Litecoin.

Commenting on the expansion, Gemini co-founder and CEO Tyler Winklevoss said: “Cryptocurrency is the future of money, and we’re committed to building a bridge to that future in Australia.

“We are thrilled to continue expanding our global footprint and give Aussies a safe and trustworthy cryptocurrency experience. We founded Gemini to build trust in this nascent technology and we look forward to building that trust in Australia.”

Apart from Australia, Gemini also has a presence in 49 US states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, as well as the UK.

The exchange completed a SOC2 Type I examination, an industry standard for security compliance. Gemini is said to be the first cryptocurrency exchange to do so.

The firm’s co-founders were recently in the news for their willingness to collaborate with Facebook on the Libra project.

Recently, the exchange also submitted an application for securing a broker-dealer licence from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
