Coinbase, a virtual currency exchange and wallet operator, has launched a new product (in Beta) that will enable US customers to buy bitcoin instantly through their debit cards.

Currently, the feature is launched for one per cent of the US customer and intends to launch it completely over the coming months.

The company said that customers with this feature enabled can add a debit card either by going to the payment methods page on Coinbase.com or through the payment method option in its iOS and Android apps.

"Since there are over 5.2B debit cards in circulation, we’re confident this capability will make it significantly easier both for new users to get their first bitcoin, and for existing users to get bitcoin quickly," Coinbase added.

The entity already offers the ability to purchase bitcoin with debit/credit cards to European customers.
