Mobile payment and marketing platform CITCON has collaborated with IT firm ACCEO to enable acceptance of Chinese payment solutions WeChat Pay and Alipay at retailers across North America.

ACCEO Tender Retail will be power the service, which supports a direct-to-processor solution.

With the solution, retailers in North America can select and change their processor and payment hardware.

All this is said to be done without perpetual and gateway fees.

The tie-up is said to offer a “huge opportunity”, considering the two mobile payment platforms’ combined user base of 1.3 billion.

China is said to be the top mobile payment market globally.

The nation facilitated transactions worth $12.8 trillion in 2017, CITCON said.

ACCEO vice president of acquirer relations and product innovation Michael Loftus said: “Acceptance of WeChat Pay and Alipay will be very beneficial to our retailers in expanding their reach to new consumers and an expanded capability to accept alternative forms of payment.”
