Barclays has extended its Pingit mobile payments app to users in India in an ongoing expansion of its app.
This will target British residents who have family in India and want to send money. Users of the app do not have to be Barclays customers. A digital wallet is created to send or receive funds if they do not have an account with the bank.
Ashok Vaswani, CEO, personal and corporate banking at Barclays, said: "This launch demonstrates continued innovation by Barclays to meet the needs of UK consumers. It also marks an important step for future Pingit development and opportunities internationally."
The app has also been launched in Kenya, where adoption of digital and mobile financial solutions has increased rapidly over the last few years.
"Our goal is that no-one is left behind in the current digital revolution," he added.
In July, Vaswani addressed a class of 90 school children at the Walworth Academy in East London. He said he was speaking to them as future Barclays customers in a bid to shake off negative stories about banks which they have grown up with.

"My role is to listen to customers, to make sure we give them what they want," he said.
The Pingit launch in India will also target Indian students at British universities. The UK-India remittance market is worth over $4.2bn per year. Barclays is set to roll out gift voucher solutions in its Pingit app late August.
