Bank Alfalah, Pakistan’s largest issuer and acquirer of credit cards, has launched chip and pin cards in Pakistan.

The Pakistani bank, owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Group said the launch of chip and pin cards was the first step in creating a card payments ecosystem.

Bank Alfalah has introduced chip and pin cards for new customers and will carry out a rolling re-issuing exercise, spanning over a year, in order to convert existing customers’ to the new standard.

Customers are increasingly demanding safer, quicker and more sophisticated payments solutions.

Bank Alfalah has an international presence in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bahrain and the UAE and its branch network spans over 574 branches across 196 cities.

This new launch follows the partnership developed between Bank Alfalah and UnionPay International in 2013 to accept UnionPay cards in Pakistan and can be seen as a new part of the bank strategy’s for growth.
