Burma-based Asian Green Development Bank and
Thailand-based Kasikorn Bank have signed a deal to establish a
remittance service between the two countries by June 2012.

“Migrants sending their hard-earn cash from
Thailand back to their homes via unofficial money transfer services
often end up losing their money so based on this consideration, we
sought approval from the World Bank to run an official remittance
service,” eurasiareview.com quoted a Kaikorn Bank representative as
saying.

The first branch to launch the remittance
service is in Mahachai, a district near Bangkok with a large number
of Burmese immigrants.

Kasikorn Bank is considering to employ Burmese
staff in selected branches and may also offer discounts for migrant
workers that use the remittance service.

Kasikorn Bank already has ATM machines in more
than 20 areas in Thailan that offer a Burmese language option.
