UnionPay International has inked a deal with ANZ Bank under which the bank will enable UnionPay card acceptance at its ATMs and POS networks across New Zealand.
Under the deal, the banks will also accept UnionPay QuickPass besides accepting UnionPay chip cards.
The deal is expected to increase UnionPay’s ATM acceptance coverage in the New Zealand market to 50%.
UnionPay International chief co-operation officer David Lee: "We also launched innovative services in conformity with the emerging trend of payment technologies, providing UnionPay cardholders with flexible payment experiences. In the future, we will deepen our cooperation with ANZ to promote its network in other Asia-Pacific markets to accept UnionPay cards."
ANZ New Zealand CEO David Hisco said: "UnionPay is an internationally influential bankcard brand, and our cooperation with UnionPay International will not only meet the cross-border payment demands of consumers, but also have great significance in the development of ANZ as well as the payment industry in New Zealand."
ANZ had enabled all of its ATMs and merchants in Australia to accept UnionPay cards in 2015.
