American Express has renewed its agreement with Delta Air Lines to be the Atlanta-based carrier’s exclusive credit-card issuer.

The new agreement that takes effect next month will be extended for six years.

The deal will allow Delta to continue as a card-accepting merchant of Amex besides providing Platinum Card members of Amex and Delta Reserve card members with the access to the Delta’s proprietary airport lounges Delta Sky Club.

The partnership, which began in 1996, will benefit Delta over the next five years by allowing card members to transfer Amex membership rewards points to the SkyMiles program, without being subject to a previously announced annual transfer limit.

Glen Hauenstein, Chief Revenue Officer of Delta, said: "Delta’s extended agreement with American Express not only means that we will continue to offer the industry-leading products and services customers have come to enjoy, but also that we will jointly develop innovative new programs that provide access to more of the things they value most."
