Alipay, a mobile payment platform operated by Ant Financial, has partnered with fintech firm SnapPay to further expand its presence in Canadian market.

The agreement will allow retailer in Canada to accept Chinese currency from Chinese consumers through a mobile wallet.

Arcteryx, Canada Goose, Lululemon, Viva Naturals, Aldo and SunRype are among the 700 Canadian merchants that are already accepting Alipay.

Alipay North America president Souheil Badran said: “By partnering with SnapPay, we are connecting sought-after Canadian retailers and brands with Chinese consumers who want to be able to pay with a familiar payment method.”

“We want to continue offering Chinese consumers visiting Canada the ability to pay as they would in China,” said Badran.

The move is part of Alipay’s global expansion strategy under which it recently added expanded its partners base in Nordic market .
