Alipay, a mobile payment platform operated by Ant Financial, has signed MoUs with Finpro (Finland), Svensk Handel (Sweden) and the Scandinavian Tourist Board to expand its business in the Nordic region.

Finpro is a government owned organization promoting trade, investment and tourism in Finland, while Svensk Handel is a Swedish trade federation. This partnership will enable merchants in Nordic region to reach out to the Chinese customers and accept payments made via Alipay.

Commenting on the move, Ant Financial Services Group president of international business Douglas Feagin said: “Alipay has been leading the trend of smart living in China. People not only use Alipay for payment, but also for settlement of all types of needs in their daily life. As part of our globalization strategy, we are focused on working with local partners to bring this smart lifestyle to Chinese tourists, no matter where they go.”

In Finland over 500 merchants have already joined Alipay’s Discover Platform, which include major brands like Marimekko, Iittala, Marja Kurki and retail giant Stockmann. E-payment company ePassi has been working with Finpro to promote Alipay in Finland.

Marketing services providers 2paynow and APay are working with Scandinavian Tourist Board to introduce Alipay to Norwegian merchants.

Alipay said that it is planning to extend its services to merchants in Denmark and other countries as well.
