Payments company Adyen has introduced its 3D Secure (3DS) 2.0 solution to enable customers bolster security and authorisation rates.

Based on EMVCo’s 3DS protocols, the new Adyen solution will authenticate all transactions in background. This will be done without interventions from the customer.

The Adyen 3DS 2.0 analyses more than 100 different data points shared between issuing banks for better authentication.

It also utilises information from Adyen’s global payment network for authenticating transactions.

Adyen product head Brian Dammeir said: “Adyen continues to simplify payments for merchants. Our first-to-market 3DS 2.0 solution helps merchants reduce fraud risk, navigate complex regulatory frameworks such as PSD2, and improve the customer experience.

“It builds on the benefits of the original iteration of 3DS and overcomes the pitfalls. It offers maximum fraud protection with minimal friction, as well as working seamlessly on mobile devices.”

In order to authenticate transactions, the Adyen 3DS 2.0 allows the shoppers to use biometrics. Biometric technology can include fingerprint, voice and facial recognition.

Additionally, Adyen 3DS 2.0 solution enables the merchants to fulfil country or region specific compliance requirements. It does this by automatically determining them.

The service is also compatible on mobile devices, which its previous version cannot achieve.

Dammeir added: “There’s no doubt that PSD2 and 3DS 2.0 represent a significant challenge for merchants, but they also create opportunities.

“To help capitalise on the opportunities, our 3DS 2.0 solution works universally as a central authentication solution for merchants who work with various partners across the world.”
