Payments industry venture financing deals total $414.35m globally in February 2021

The $120m venture financing of Blockchain Luxembourg was the payments industry’s top venture financing deal as total deals worth $414.35m were announced globally in February 2021, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 82.3% over the previous month of $2.34bn and a drop of 33.8% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $625.97m.

Comparing venture financing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $153.22m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $151.63m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for payments industry venture financing deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of venture financing deals activity in February 2021 was the US with eight deals, followed by the UK with three and India with two.

In 2021, as of February, payments venture financing deals worth $2.75bn were announced globally, marking a decrease of 350.9% year on year.

The top five payments industry venture financing deals accounted for 65.4% of the overall value during February 2021.

The combined value of the top five payments venture financing deals stood at $271m, against the overall value of $414.35m recorded for the month.

The top five payments industry venture financing deals of February 2021 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Access Industries, Eldridge Industries, GV Management Co, Kyle Bass, Lakestar Capital, Lightspeed Management Company, Moore Strategic Ventures and Rovida Advisors’ $120m venture financing of Blockchain Luxembourg

2) The $108m venture financing of BharatPe by Amplo, Beenext, Coatue Management, Insight Partners, Ribbit Capital, Sequoia Capital and Steadview Capital

3) Bronze Investments, First Round Capital, Kapor Capital, XYZ Venture Capital and Y Combinator Management’ $20m venture financing of Promise Networks

4) The $13m venture financing of Mesh Payments by Meron Capital Advisors, R-Squared Ventures, Ryan Gilbert and TLV Partners

5) Boaz Palgi, Erez Webman, Eric Sager, FJ Labs, Gokul Rajaram, Ofer Smadari, Sam Hodges, Sarah Friar, Talmon Marco and TPY Capital’s venture financing of UNIPaaS Financial Services for $10m.
