Payments industry deals in September 2020 total $1.74bn globally

Total payments industry deals for September 2020 worth $1.74bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 31.5% over the previous month and a drop of 24.1% when compared with the last 12-month average of $2.3bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 31.4% over the last 12-month average with 46 deals against the average of 35 deals.

In value terms, Europe led the activity with deals worth $783.55m.

Payments industry deals in September 2020: Top deals

The top five payments deals accounted for 74.5% of the overall value during September 2020.

The combined value of the top five payments deals stood at $1.3bn, against the overall value of $1.74bn recorded for the month.

The top five payments industry deals of September 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) BlackRock, Bonnier, HMI Capital, Merian Chrysalis InvestmentLimited, Northzone Ventures, Silver Lake Partners, TCV and GIC’s $650m private equity deal with Klarna Bank

2) The $215m venture financing of Greenlight Financial Technology by Bond Gifting, Canapi, DST Global, Fin Venture Capital, Goodwater Capital, Relay Ventures and TTV Capital

3) Addition and General Atlantic’s $200m private equity deal with dLocal Group

4) The $126m acquisition of Wameja by Mastercard

5) TCMI’s venture financing of Mollie for $106m.
