MIFARE4Mobile industry group formed to develop NFC technology

Leading firms involved in Near Field Communication (NFC) technology have joined forces to form the MIFARE4Mobile industry group, specially designed to aid collaboration and further develop MIFARE based services. The group, comprising of Ericsson, Gemalto, NXP, Oberthur Technologies, STMicroelectronics, Venyon and ViCOtech, will act as a platform to provide future direction, discuss experiences and share best practices to ensure evolution, interoperable development and implementation of the MIFARE4Mobile technology. The creation of this new industry group provides further impetus to the development of NFC applications for mobile phones especially given MIFARE’s reach as a key contactless platform, said Jonathan Collins, principal analyst, ABI Research

KDDI picks Gemalto for NFC pilot in Japan

Gemalto, the digital security company, has been selected by Japans KDDI, a mobile communication provider with over 31m subscribers, to provide its User Identity Module cards and trusted service management solution for its near-field communication programme. Boom in m-payments predicted in China

Technology developments are being cited as one of the triggers for the impending boom in Chinas mobile payment sector, as transaction values are set to increase 308% to CNY9.8bn ($1.4bn) in 2010.
