Uruguays credit card company Creditel will double its number of cards in circulation by 2013 thanks to its purchase by Spains Banco Santander. South Korea will install or upgrade 300,000 m-payment checkouts at retailers and transport services during 2011 in its latest push to increase using of the technology. Verizon forms partnership with Payfone

As the US telco JV Isis scales back its m-payments ambitions, Verizon Wireless looks to m-payment processing service Payfone to ensure it stays ahead in the m-payments game.The newly formed partnership will allow Verizon Wireless customers to make online purchases via their smartphones, tablets and PCs using a variety of payment methods including, charging purchases to their monthly wireless statements and other unspecified traditional methods via financial institution partners.

FICO clamps down on credit card fraud

Data analytics and decision management technology provider FICO aims to wipe out 30% of credit card fraud in Germany through recent contract signings of its Falcon Fraud Manager solution.As of autumn 2011, FICO expects to safeguard 8.8m German payment cards against attempted fraud. This figure is predicted to rise further to 9.7m cards during spring 2012 when the benefits FICOs fraud prevention and detection are realised.

Music fans give thumbs up to contactless

Festival-goers put MasterCard prepaid contactless-enabled wristbands to the test during the UKs 2011 Isle of Wight Festival and a resounding 100% said they would use the technology at future events. The vast majority of those using the PayPass prepaid wristbands to pay for food and drinks said they were quicker (96%) and easier to use (98%) than credit or debit cards.
