The technology connects point-of-sale (POS), ATM and e-commerce channels with major card networks such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

In a statement, ACI Worldwide said Kwik Payments’ use of the ACI Payments Orchestration Platform will help merchants reduce checkout friction. It said the move is expected to drive conversion uplifts of more than 20%.

Kwik Payments CEO Eddy Marais said: “Our ambition is to help shape the future of digital commerce in Africa by giving merchants access to reliable, high-performance and globally competitive payment capabilities.

“Partnering with ACI provides us with a proven orchestration foundation that supports our growth strategy, enabling us to scale from South Africa into broader African markets while delivering world-class eCommerce experiences.”

ACI Worldwide said the partnership is a “pivotal milestone” in its expansion across Africa.

The company said the orchestration platform helps merchants manage and optimise payments across online, mobile and recurring channels. It also supports transaction routing across multiple acquirers, payment methods and geographies.

The digital payment processor said the model is designed to shorten deployment timelines compared with traditional multi-provider setups enabling merchants to go live within one to two weeks. The company said this can reduce operational complexity and speed up time to market.

ACI added the platform includes AI-based fraud detection. It assesses more than 1,000 data points per transaction in real time. The platform also includes AI-enabled reporting and reconciliation tools. Such capabilities can reduce “manual reconciliation effort” by up to 80% while improving accuracy and efficiency.

ACI Worldwide Middle East & Africa Merchant head of merchant Matt Rubin said: “Africa is one of the fastest-growing digital commerce regions in the world, and South Africa plays a critical role as a gateway for innovation and scale.

“With ACI’s Payments Orchestration Platform, Kwik Payments provides the flexibility and intelligence needed to help African merchants compete on a global stage, while navigating local payment preferences, complexity and growth demands.”
