European fintech payabl. has launched Tap to pay, a SoftPOS product that enables businesses to accept contactless card payments directly on smartphones.
In a statement, payabl. said the service will allow micro and SME businesses to take in-person payments without “dedicated card terminal hardware”.

Tap to pay by payabl. allows merchants to use NFC-enabled Android devices as payment terminals.
The company said the product is aimed at merchants that need to accept payments across multiple locations. It cited use cases including events, temporary retail setups and delivery routes.
The company expects to add iOS support later this year.
payabl. Group CEO Ugne Buraciene said: “Payments should adapt to the way merchants operate, not the other way around. Tap to pay gives businesses a simple way to accept in-person payments using the devices they already rely on every day.
“Combined with payabl.one, merchants can see and manage both online and in-store transactions in one place, giving them clearer visibility and control over their money flow.”
According to the company, merchants can begin accepting payments after downloading the Tap to pay app and completing activation.
The app supports PIN entry and e-receipts for customers. It also supports different transaction types such as sales, refunds, reversals and tips.
payabl. added that integration with payabl.one provides a single platform for managing online and in-person transactions. The company said the combined view includes transactions, payouts and settlement status, which makes “reconciliation and performance tracking easier”.
payabl. said some merchants have already deployed Tap to pay ahead of the wider launch. Nafais, a retail fragrance store, went live within days and used the service to accept card payments from its opening.
Since implementation, 65% of Nafais’ transactions are processed digitally, according to payabl.
The launch follows changes in the UK contactless payments landscape. The £100 contactless spending cap has been removed, allowing banks and card providers to set their own limits.
The change is expected to increase contactless usage.
payabl. provides payments and business accounts for businesses. Its services include online and in-person card acceptance, multi-currency accounts, virtual and physical card issuing, and access to more than 300 local and alternative payment methods.
The company operates from offices in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Limassol and Vilnius.
Last year, payabl. introduced its POS solution to the UK market. The company said the solution was designed for enterprises operating in hospitality, services and retail.
