Electronic Merchant Systems (EMS) has invested in Payment Nerds and Pet Payments, two new entities spearheaded by Shawn Silver, the ex-founder of PaymentCloud.

Payment Nerds and Pet Payments have both signed distribution deals with EMS.

Silver stepped down from his role at EMS-owned PaymentCloud last year and will now lead Payment Nerds as the CEO.

Payment Nerds offers a vertically integrated payment platform to various industries, including hospitality, retail, and e-commerce.

Silver stated: “Starting PaymentCloud and watching it grow has been an incredible journey. I’m deeply appreciative of the EMS team and their support as I take this next step. I look forward to continuing my relationship with EMS as our processing partner and utilising their innovative merchant platforms to fuel our growth.”

Pet Payments, on the other hand, provides specialised payment services for the pet care industry, including veterinary practices and pet grooming businesses.

EMS executive chairman & CEO Afshin Yazdian said: “EMS is thrilled to take on the role of strategic investor in Payment Nerds and Pet Payments. I look forward to cementing an exciting distribution partnership that promises continued advancement across the fintech industry.”

“We are immensely grateful for Shawn’s role in driving success at PaymentCloud. This transition represents a win-win scenario, allowing for new growth opportunities for both EMS and Shawn’s latest ventures. We look forward to fueling Shawn’s success.”

Last month, EMS acquired Peel Payments, a merchant acquirer based in Oklahoma City, improving its distribution network and entering the petroleum/C-Store market.

EMS has over 30,000 customer bases in sectors such as retail, internet, and omnichannel clients relying on its diverse array of payment solutions.

The company’s portfolio includes credit card processing, risk management, payment gateways, virtual terminals, sales software, and web management services.
