Using NFC technology, i-Pay will allow customers to make payments with a simple tap at a reader of any MasterCard PayPass merchant.

According to BEA, the customers will be able to use iPay to settle a range of transactions including grocery, food & beverage, fashion, and beauty & personal care purchases.

BEA general manager and personal banking division head, Vincent Hui, said: "BEA is the first bank in Hong Kong to provide a mobile payment service that does not restrict customers to a particular type of smartphone or network.

"This feature enhances the customer experience, as people can enjoy greater convenience and flexibility when using the innovative payment method."
