Orange has begun the largest NFC mobile
payments roll-out in Poland, after determinedly pushing its mobile
NFC payments drive in France, Spain, and the UK.
PTK Centertel, Orange group’s Polish unit, is
working on a commercial pilot targeting thousands of users and
allowing them to make low value payments at the point of sale by
waving their handsets against any of the 35,000 contactless readers
already in place across Poland – at fast food restaurants, cinemas,
supermarkets and other retail stores.
Specialists in digital security Gemalto is
providing PTK Centertel with an end-to-end solution for the
project, including NFC software and user interface applications,
delivered via NFC SIMs and Trusted Service Management (TSM)
services.
“We need a complete solution to speed up our
time-to-market, and leverage the strong contactless payment network
already existing in Poland to make our consumer the first to
benefit from the NFC experience,” said Krzysztof Sieczkowski,
product and content development director of PTK Centertel.
Gemalto has been an active part of Orange
group’s NFC expansion strategy with deployments in the UK and
France.
